1995 Camry factory alarm problem?

Has anyone else had problems with their charging system due to a short in the factory alarm system?
My battery light and rear taillight warning lights come on intermittently while driving and slowing down. deselecting the overdive seems to help temporarily.
of course, my first thought was to buy a new battery and alternator, but the person I bought the car from swears that the source of the problem is the factory alarm, and that the battery and alternator are relatively new. She said that this battery light problem happened to her in the past, and she brought it to a Toyota dealership for service and they "fixed" the problem for 1 hours worth of labor, and the invoice said "located open and repaired"
I'd like to know what you guys think. check the fuses? disable the factory alarm?
Its stressful driving around wearing the battery down

I call BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGUS on the alarm. Sounds to me like shot alternator. Alternator would be providing a recharge flow and circulation to keep the battery up even if there was a short. The short might pull it down over night when you turn on the alarm or something. But Being as you can't drive the car with alarm engaged.....BOGUS! Take it a reputable local shop. I have a shop over on the west side that does amazing work. Not big time opperation by any standard but they actually fix things that Stealerships "fix" and even in some cases create and make worse. Stealerships are usually to be avoided. Take it to one for general diagnosis if you want but get second opinion some else.

yeah, it has to be something to do with the alternator. for shits and giggles, did you ever try not engaging your alarm over night and just locking the doors to see if the problem persists?

on a side note, the 95 camrys did come with a factory alarm option. i know mine has it. RS3000 model with the glass breakage sensor.
