3rd Generation Just Got New Rims, Now I Need Tires... What Should I Be Looking For?

I ordered these rims from a fellow TN member, and they just arrived today.

Their specs are
17X7 5-100/114 42SM

And I was wondering what tire size I should be looking for. I know I'm looking for 17" tires, obviously, but the Section Width specs and all that fun stuff that has to do with finding tires, has me all confused.

What's a good tire size to be looking for to put on these rims?

What is your budget?
What are you looking for in terms of tirewear?

Excellent value. Yokohama Avid
read reviews on tirerack

More pricey, performance tires
-Michellin MVX, Pirelli P0, Dunlop 4000 (i think, but some people say it does not last)

Are you looking for a comfortable ride or you live on the edge? less side wall = higher performance, more costly, slighly more feel for the road

more info pls?

Well, after a long time of using $50 tires on my gen 3 with its 14" steelies, I think that $100-$115/tire would be my budget.

And I'd like them to last a while.

^Those are nice tires. Since he's in Cali, he doesn't need to worry about snow, so it's nice. When I was researching, the biggest knock was the treadlife, but they are cheap performance tires (H rated (130mph)).

I'd suggest 1010tires when you do research. It is very very helpful.

if you go to tirerack.com or tires.com, you will be able to select 17" rims for your car and it will tell you what size tires to run. Im running the Khumo Ecsta SPTs right now, really good tire for the money. good luck!

Those are the ones that are like $77 per tire, right? Do you get screeching?

Hmm... I am enticed already. Sears, you said? And $48/tire for 17"?

Oh, and for all the curious ones out there, here are the rims, out of the box.

Hahaha, that's what I thought you meant :P Well, they're on TireRack.com for my size at $77 per tire. Im thinking if I should just go to costco and see what I can get, because when you buy there, they give you the tires, a warranty, installation, etc...

How much heavier do you think the new rims are compared to the older ones?
