3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have 99 Camry Cali spec and I am looking for a good scan tool to read error codes, freeze frames, and other real time data. What to you recommend? I've been looking at this one http://www.obd-2.com/ . Has anyone tried it? I need something that can read wideband O2 sensor (A/F) my camry has and all other sensors as well, real time and data logging.
I've looked at it but it does not seem to be as complete as some of the other products. I need a scanner that can read engine/trans/ABS codes/sensors as well as proprietary codes for Toyota and Ford. How do you like Auterra tool?
I had a ScanGuageII as well. It's a great device, and reading error codes is just one of it's features.
But if thats all you want, you can buy code scanners for under $50.
I do not need code ready, I've got one already. I need a tool that provides full interface to ECU and is able to display and log all the parameters that ECU can see. It does not look like ScanGauge can do it. I leaning towards OBD-2 tool at this point. It's only $140 and it can display hundreds of sensors, including ABS and transmission. I'll give it a try. I've got CEL on two of my cars, it'll be a good testing ground.

What I've got from Auterra was a box that I plug into the OBDII and a software. Then, depending on your choise you can get the box that you can use with either Palm or with a laptop. I've got Auterra for Palm (for the reason that's more compact).
Auterra is constantly (for last 5 years) upgrading software and you always can download it for free. Software has a generic module and additional module specific of your car that you can add. I'm helping friends time to time to check their cars and I did not find a car yet for which the Auterra would have no support.
There is a great opportunity to make familiar yourself with Auterra before buying, you can download a demo version of software and play with it to make sure it has what are you looking for.
