3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Well today on my way home from college I was traveling on a two way road that is under construction. Since only one lane was avaible I had to stop and wait until given the go ahead by the construction crew. While waiting, I glance in my rearview mirror to see a Chevy Venture coming right at me going about 60 mph. As I slammed on the gas to turn onto a nearby driveway I hear tires screeching behind me only to see him slid right where I was before. So in the end everything turned out to be alright, but I am still shaken up from this experience.
This only applies to Gen 3's? I got rear-ended at a stop light last year in my Gen 4. There I was, minding my own business, when I hear a "screeeeeeeeeeeeeeech!". I got to look in my rearview just before she hit me (old lady) with her Rav4. I got out the word "shit" just before she hit me.
You know by posting this thread you probably just jinxed yourself and youre going to find your car stripped bare with two dead hookers in the trunk come morning right?
Thanks for the support guys, after it happened I was so pissed. I just wanted to get out of the car and kick that idiot in the nuts, but I didnt want to cause a scene.
Chances are the driver was on their cell phone or doing something else. I can't tell you the number of "close encounters" I've had with people on phones. I've also seen people on the local commute with newspapers or magazines open on their steering wheel. I've seen guys shaving in their cars with electric razors. My favorite was the lady that was up in her rear view mirror using an eyelash curler while travelling at 50mph in morning rush hour traffic.
You really have to be on top of your defensive driving game these days.
What did the construction crew do? And very nice save
Well, the lady that was directing traffic came to see if everyone was alright. Since no accident really occured she just had the guy in the van back up so I could get back on the road and we went our ways.
