Okay guys, I need some help here, My camry has a little leak around the drive shaft.
I am wondering what kind of oil is leaking? Motor Oil or transmission oil
also, it is just a very minor leak. like a few drops. Should I do anything do it?
thx~

Hi there. I think you might have a problem that I just recently had with my 96 5sfe camry. My leak was from left/drivers side drive shaft. I t wasn't too bad visually but every single time I parked somewhere for a couple of hours there would be a few drops on the ground afterwards. I got underneath the car, examined where the leak was coming from and for 99% I was sure that it was a axle seal leak. I decided to change it because it might actually cause a lot of damage in a long run. If you think about it, when you get a few drops while your car is parked how much oil is actually leaking when you drive and when preassure rises??? Probably way more. Differential doesn't hold as much ATF as transmission does so you may easily run out of fluid after a while and than you f...ed.
But guess what...... It was a bitch to get it replaced and I hope that I wont have to do it ever again in my life. Axle wouldnt come out and etc. So hopefully this isnt your case but look into it carefully. Leaks arent a good news sometimes.
Seal was only about $11 and I also replaced the inner boot($13) cause it had a little hole in it. Whole project was worth it though. No more leaks and I also changed differential fluid, I droped AT fluid pan, replaced gasket, cleaned filter out and replaced transmission fluid. Dirty job though but i like it sometimes so good luck man.

As rebiszkrzys said it sounds like the axle seal, leaking oil s/b red(ish). I would check your differential oil level. That's the real potential for damage; running the diff oil too low. Easy - replacing them, Hard - getting to them. It would be nice to wait until you need a new cv as the axle has to come out anyway. As long as you keep track of your diff fluid level you will be ok.

man.. pain in my ass
I just changed the engine.. ouch!
by the way, where can I check my diff oil? I have 3vzfe and manual
I got no clue how to check my diff oil
aw... I don't want to spend too much.....
You should be able to check your diff like on a 4 cyl auto (they have separate diff cases from the tranny). The fluid should be up to the fill plug on the back side of the diff. I don't know about the manual transmission but on the autos the dif fill plug took a 17mm wrench/socket.
