3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I read almost all of ur posts and I thought I might ask a question. I've got a 94 camry CSI (Australian). I'd like to improve a few things in the car if possible (It has 250 000km on it, and the previous owners don't appear to have looked after the car at all, so i don't wanna spend too much on it)
My car is always cold for about 5km of driving. (I've had coolant, thermostat etc replaced).
Oil leaks - I've had the rear main fixed, the filter gasket replaced, etc... but there r still 2 leaks... One seems to be a clear oil and the other is engine oil... any common leaks that it might be?
Right hand rear window winder is shot, the plastic appears fine, is there a trick to wind the coil properly inside the regulator?
One of my headlights has moisture inside. Is there a way to open it and clean it out?
Thanks for all your help. Thanks to this site, i was able to replace all the globes in my dash to working ones.
- the cooling issue is pretty common with these cars. they take a while to get to operating temp.
- head gaskets and valve cover gaskets are major culprits, especially that valve cover one.
- manual windows IDK
- if u want u can heat up the adhesive that holdds the lense on the housing of the lihgt and then it will come off so u can clean it. preheat the oven to 250 degrees then turn off the oven, place the headlight in and wait about 5-10 mins the adhesive should be warm enough to just pry the lense off. remember to take the 6 clips binding the lense to the housing off. do the same to seal them again.
Before I tried to wind up the old regulator, I'd look on eBay. They sell 'em new for cheap, and you'd be more assured it's done right. It's a bit of a fuss to install, and I'd hate to get it all done only to have it go out again in a month.
The 'clear' oil... is it reddish amber, coming from the passenger side of the engine bay? In our 92 and 93 V6's, that's a power steering pump leak. You might consider that.
Good luck!

Thought I'd just latch onto this thread instead of starting a new one-
So this weekend I had to replace a light on my '95 wagon. Bought the 9006 55 Watter for the outside lamp, and began to take off the lens of the light as I wrongly thought I'd have to. However, after having removed the 4 clips I could see (and 2 of them are down on top of the bumper- no idea how I'd put them back on) - I realized the lense was pretty solidly anchored with epoxy and/or essentially welded to the headlight housing. So looking at the book I had I realized- DUH! - I have to pull the light out from inside the hood behind the lamps. That done and the lamp successfully replaced, I had to wonder if the 2 clips I can now no way get back on are really of any value to holding the lense on. It seems they must function as temporary clips until the factory bonding dries/cures the headlight ssembly. Is this right?
