Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
hey guys i have a 97 camry and recently ive redone the suspension (specs in sig) and my bro has a 93 camry and he had a TRD sway bar on it and he said it was really made for my gen. and that he just had to make a little custom part so it would fit on his camry. well he recently sold it to me for 50 dollars and we werent able to install it ourselfs. we couldnt figure how to get it on. i gave my old sway bar to him and it fit fine. but anyways i took the car to the shop and they got it on for 40 bucks (they orginally were wanting 100...nuh uh). Its been maybe about a month or so on the sway bar and its been making a loud thump noise when ever i hit bumps. Its really noticable when i go over speed bumps. I finally got a chance to look at it and its sitting pretty close to some parts in the center (cant think of the name of those parts) but really i didnt see anything
i plan to take it back to the shop to get looked at but i just wanted to see if theres anything i can do with out have to take it to the shop.
sumary: old sway bar=no noise.....new bigger TRD sway bar= noticable thump noises when going over bumps and espescially speed bumps
oh and fyi this sway bar is on the street setting and not the stiff setting

i'm having that problem too.. except my noise is more like sqweaking.. i hear it when i go over speed bumps or dips, etc. i took it to the shop today, and they told me all i needed to do was to grease up the rear strut mounts. but when i got my car back, it still had that noise.
No noise out of mine. (YET)..but I did replace the end links at the install! I also was told here, to use Gen 4 bushing Brackets, and plumbers tape on the bushings with the grease!
I guess it was good advise!

the yellow box. use an allen wrench and a regular wrench (10 i think). when you turn the nut, the entire bolt is gonna move too thats why you need to put the allen wrench into the hole (you'll see what im talking about when your'e under your car) and use the wrench to turn while holding on the allen wrench.
once you take it off, put the hex lock on. it wont slide on so get an adjustable wrench to push it down. after that put the nut on the same way you took it off.
id recommend buying some grease for your bushings cause its gonna squeak in the future.
i actually found the problem i think the link that connects to the strut is loose so when i get time ill try to fix it
i just hope no damage was done to the strut with the bolt being loose
Hey! I have the same noise problem a week after I have changed the strut-spring assemblies AND install NEW sway bar links! Bushing? Can it be control rod bushing? Or something else?
Tightening sway bar links should NOT normally help (if they are tightened to specification) since they must move relatively easy that is not a signal of a problem.

well today i took a look at it more with the wheels off and the bolt that was loose was the top one and so i got it tightened up and i wanna know if an auto part store would sell a 14mm locking hex nut. the bottom bolt you were think was loose was actually really tight but a hex lock would still be good to put on there
thanks for all the help
