It took me an hour maybe to cut and weld together.
... Just angle iron, two pipe nipples, and a couple of 8mmx1.25x70mm bolts.

nice...if you know how to weld...

he's trying to take off the nut in the center of the crank pulley

the crank pulley itself has to be held still otherwise the crank bolt will turn the pulley when it's being taken off = the bolt not coming off

dc_98, this might sound silly but i bet if you made a couple more of those you could probably sell them to people here on the forum to people who are scared to do the starter bump or even someone that wants to tighten the pulley bolt to the proper torque specification.

.... When I finally got to the point where I had the pulley tool bolted to the pulley face, and an 18" breaker bar and socket on the nut, I was almost hanging in the air .... until it broke loose. It had to be something like 200 ft-lb. of torque to get it loose.

.... I had heard about the starter bump method ... but I didn't have anybody here that really wanted to assist me. .... Besides, how are you going to hold the pulley fixed when you want to tighten the center bolt to the specified 80 ft-lb?

... I guess I could make a couple of extra tools and see if anybody wants one. Does any Gen 3 owner know if the Gen 3 crankshaft pulleys have a 2.25" center point distance between the tapped holes? ... Are the tapped holes on the
Gen 3 pulley face sized at 8mm x 1.25, or something else?

with the starter bump, it can be a one person operation. i wedged the breaker bar against the ground to hold it in place. then i used a strap wrench to hold the pulley. i couldnt get it to 80 ft-lbs, but it was close enough.

i wish i could tell you what the size is for the pulley. i couldnt figure it out on mine (maybe because of all the rust) so i had to drill and re-tap the holes to a standard size i had.

... Don't know about autozone.
.... Seems like most people go with starter bump.
.... Just curious though .... Would somebody pay $25 + shipping?

I remember when I had my old 91 Camry it took forever to get that bold off. I eventually had to take the belt off and use that as a strap wrench which in turn damaged it. Once the bolt was off it took another day or so to remove the pulley. I used a universal puller.

universal pullers = baaaaaad for this.
three jaw are better than 2, but with a jaw puller, you risk cracking a chunk off of the pulley (ive done that)
get the right tool for the job, so you wont have to replace anything that you might break.
