4th Generation Water Pump

Hi,
I replaced my coolant 2K miles back. I was thinking of getting the Tbelt and Water Pump changed recently. Will I have to drain the new coolant i put in? Or the part can be changed without draining the coolant. The car is 99 V6 XLE.
Thanks

Removing the water pump requires draining the coolant system. Place a container under the radiator drain point to collect the coolant, then reuse it. If debris gets into the coolant use cheese cloth or paint filter to screen it as you pour it back in.

I was wondering if I could run the water pump and Timing belt for another 10 K miles. I currently have 117K. What do you think?

Replacement interval for TB on the V6 is 90k miles, as I recall.
There is a small orifice on the water pump, which can be used to tell if any coolant is leaking around the pump shaft .... indicating failure. You should see a mineral or precipitate buildup if there is an immediate problem.

This is a picture of my old defective water pump ... only 44k miles, and you can see a little of the mineral buildup at the leakage hole. .... You only see the edge of the pump when it is installed.
