Ignition Problem

Hey guys I have a 1997 Le (4cyl) auto and I am having problems turning the key to start the car. When I try to start the car the key gets stuck and won't turn and I have to keep messing with it until the key goes in and finally turns to start the engine. I have no idea what the problem is I tried using different keys but the problem keeps arising so I ruled out my keys being the problem. TIA

It may be the key or the lock cylinder. If the key you're using has been cut from an old key then it too will be bad. I would start by taking the car to a dealer and they will cut a brand new key from the VIN. Take ID and the registration so they can verify you are the owner.

So if i use the keys that came with the car or order new keys from dealer it would solve the problem? I am not sure if i am using copied keys or original. Probably copied because there isnt a toyota logo on the black part.

Try the original OEM a key or a new key made from the VIN and see if this improves things. If not the issue may be the cylinder, they can wear out. Have you tried moving the steering wheel when attempting to start the car?

the steering wheel is not locked and yes i have tried moving it around when putting in my key. If it is the cylinder head how much does that cost? And for new keys how much does the dealer charge.
