my camry has a lot of ODBII codes

my dash doesn't have check engine light on

1997 camry 4cyl

due to poor MPG recently, i scanned it anyway

i got a lot of codes even though CEL not light up on dash, probably bad bulb on dash

here are lists of codes:

P0773 Shift Solenoid "E" Electrical
P1133 A/F Sensor Circuit Response Malfunction (Bank #1 Sensor #1)
P1135 A/F Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank #1 Sensor #1)
P0773 PENDING
P1133 PENDING
p1135 PENDING

any idea what to do???

this is the first time i drove 4cyl auto, and the engine/transmission seems weak,
when i accelerate, rpm goes up to 3k before i feel the transmission shift into higher gear, and the vehicle feel surge forward a bit.

thanks

if you have shifting problems and a p0773 then you need a transmission, and the air fuel sensor is the back bank 1st sensor in the stream. Check your wires and make sure they are connected and not damaged. I have replaced a million b1s1 a/f sensors on the v6 camrys for years. If wiring is good just replace the a/f sensor with a oem toyota sensor.

i keep erasing the codes
added more ATF

how i got consistently coming up.

P0171
P1130
P1135

i know my ECT sensor at radiator is malfunctioned
i probably wait until i replace the ECT sensor, keep erasing the code
and see what else would happen.

maybe a faulty a/f sensor on the manifold. I use to get these codes and I replaced my o2 sensor.

your right about the a/f(02) sensor. Replace it. As far as the shift solenoid code if it stays gone cool. Solenoid E I believe is the lock up solenoid in the a140e. You should be able to replace the solenoid externally without dropping the pan if you want to try a new one. ECT definitely replace its imput is imperative to the ecu logic. assuming when you say ect you mean engine coolant temperature since toyota manuals refer to it as "thw" (thermal water)

p01130,p01134, and p0171 all relate to the a\f sensor. Definitely check the connector and the wires, but sounds like a bad sensor.

Dont strip the head when you try to remove it (chances are it will be difficult to remove) and make sure you install it in the correct bank.

Don't worry, its easy.

yes they're easy to install. Use plenty of penetrating lube, and if it is a screw in type and you strip the manifold they make a o2 sensor thread repair tap. If it is a bolt on the studs and nuts are readily available from toyota if you damage them.

If it is stubborn to come out, you may need to turn the car on for a few seconds just to warm up the pipe so it will be easier to come out. just dont burn urself.

latest update

I replaced the Engine Coolant Temp sensor at the buttom of the radiator,
that took care of the fan always on problem.

and i also replaced the Bank1 Sensor 1 oxygen sensor, i drove a few miles, and i was still getting P0773 Pending error,
then i reset it, and drive another 60 miles, now when i scan again, NO CODES

i am suprised the B1S1 O2 sensor fixed the P0773, solenoid E electrical problem,
i was going to shell out another $100 for the SL solenoid, i guess i don't need to now.

before i was having weird transmission shifting problem, when i accelerate, each higher gear shift at almost 3K RPM, now with O2 sensor replaced, i can feel each gear shift around 2.2 to 2.5k RPM, and doesn't surge when shift to higher gear like before.

congrats on your fix, but watch for your p0773 to come back. I've never seen an o2 sensor cause a shift solenoid code or fix one, but hell anything is possible. Also ive put solenoid e in before and still not fix the problem till i replaced trans.

hey, Kain, don't the o2's partially dictate the perceived engine load percentage? with that number out of kilter, I can see the pcm forcing the trans to upshift late... it would have to think it saw a very high engine load, though.
