3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
ok, so my 2000 camry ce MT is not drivable rite now.
as far as i can see the engine bay is in great condition.
i have some fender dmg and both my side mirrors knocked down. Some bumper damaged and my roof is caved in. Windshield brocken...... Roof is caved in on passenger side only.
I was driving a back road home at 9:00. There was a beeeemer tat was in front of me driving like some grandpa. So i had enough and gained a little speed to pass him up. this is a double solid line. My fault on my part. Anyhow i went to the left to pass him. But as i was doing so, he goes to the left. IDK y he would do tat....im thinkin hes an ass and did not want me to pass him. Half his car was on the left. I instinctively jerked left to try and avoid him crashing into me. i jerked left and rolled down into a 15-20 feet ditch. the beeemer just drove off like i was never there. Now ppl say he mite have been a noob driver and did not mean to run me off the road into the ditch. But i say hes a major ass and i hope karma will hit him in the ass.
Now my problem. I need a car. T_T. im thinkin bout ghetto drive my camry. Cause i miss my baby car. Not very many stick shift camry's out there. I'm thinkin of trying to fix the bare min. for me to be able to drive it. So i guess the roof, windshield, and the side mirrors. Now im just wondering how much would it cost to fix the min. Would it be worth it? Or i should just take the money from the repair cost and get a diff car. my friend said prob 3k to fix the roof. is it really tat costly? i hope its less.....anyone knows?

i always get wen ppl find out i drive a stick shift. i tell them that they a drive a stick shift too. then they reply, but urs a camry. every so often now a days. i get the surprise look of a camry being manual. hehehehehe.
it all depends on how bad the damage is. can the roof be pounded back out and filled with body filler? the other parts (aside from the windshield, but i could be wrong) can be found at a local junk yard.
though i dont understand your obsession with the camry being a manual...
honestly, i say its not worth the trouble any insurance company would total that car. but yeah the roof will be the hardest to fix. expent this to cost a pretty penny.
just sell the parts on it cuz if you try to put some money in it you'd be spending so much off the same amount to buy a new car. hopefully you can buy a new Camry

Hey! It ain't much to beat the block down, but it'll work for now...
check craigslist, ebay, papers, auto trader, even junk yards for a camry with a blown engine (it does happen) that they want almost nothing for and just change the parts over...that way even if it is an AT ride you get to keep your manual and have a parts car, im trying to find a wreck or something my year with grey interior and ive found em for as little as 100 bucks (but thrashed inside)
ill let u guys know wat i will end up doing with it.....
im thinkin about takin it to a shop tat my friend's dad owns and see how much it would be for his hook up.
if i end up selling parts....how much u think i can get from doin so?
i kno someone wants my tranny......wats ur offer if i end up parting it out?

from what you've said, its better to cut your loses and get another car. i'd say part the car and sell the rest to scrap yard. any insurance company would deem the vehicle salvage.
hey, maybe ull find another MT camry, who knows. just look around. im sorry to hear about your incident though. based on my experiences, that guy was messing with you. to have a BM and drive that slowly, and then to create a hazardous situation like that, he coulda been trying to get in an accident and say it was your fault.
I would ditch the car as well, I dont think I've actually seen a car with a repaired roof, unless you consider a carriage top a repair.
On another note what's with people and there love for not letting you pass safely. The other night I go to pass an old acura integra and he floors it after doing 5mph under the speed limit for many miles. Only one good thing came out of it, I kicked his sorry little a$$, though I had to get up to 85 to do it. just makes me mad.
See if your insurance will total the car, then buy it back from them. Find another 2000 Camry and use yours for parts. You might even swap out the transmission and stuff.
This just confirms my long time stereotype - bimmer = aggressive bad drivers
Oh and +1 for everyone that said "total, buy back from insurance, part out and get a new gen4".
