RS3000 Problems

I have a 96 Camry with an RS3000 security system that is acting up. Following are the symptoms:

- Indicator light is blinking, and the horn is chirping.
- The car will not start.
- The system will not reset with either the fob or the on-acc-on strategy
- unplugging the box under the seat stops the beeping, but the car still will not start.
- This has been going on most of the day and the battery is starting to become drained.

My son has the car out of town right now. I will be going there today with a charger and would like to get the car running. Any suggestions on what I can do to get the car running would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Here's an update.

Drove to the car last night (75 miles away). The battery was nearly dead, but I could here a clicking from the fuse box as I removed it for charging. We fully charged the battery, and it checked out good.

When we replaced the charged battery the alarm immediately began going off; horn honking, lights blinking. Pressing the button on the fob reset the alarm and all was well. The security system appeared to be working fine, although we didn't set it off and allow it to go through the entire cycle until it reset automatically due to consideration of the neighbors.

At this point, I'm not sure what caused the problem. I thought it might be possible a low battery could have caused the alarm, rather than the alarm causing a low battery. That was the reason for testing the battery (at Autozone). I also removed the battery cable with the car running and the car continued to run, which indicates the alternator is most likely working OK (unless the charging circuit only went bad?)

As a result, I had my son tuck away the Fob and promise not to use the security system until he gets back into town. At least that way it will be easier to work on if the problem happens again.

Any thoughts? How would I check the functionality of the security box? Is this something the dealer can do?

I had the 98 factory SecuriKey system .... initially the alarm would go off at odd times with no apparent cause. Took to the local dealer .... for $100+ they decreased the sensitivity of the alarm .... informed me that it was a programable adjustment .... not something that an owner could do on his own.

shock sensor sensitivity is an adjustable feature, but sounds to me like you had a bad battery and thats it...when voltage drops below a certain point with key off the alarm module goes dead....when the voltage returns for whatever reason the module goes off just like if you disconnected and reconnected the batt. cable. If your problem doesn't return and the remotes work correctly then don't worry it was just a batt. I see it all the time.

P.S. dc_98_cam shock sensor adjustment on securikey can be done with a pocket screwdriver in about 30 sec. There is an adjustment knob on the sensor located right to the left of the break pedal under the lower dash.

I had checked and changed the below dash shock adjustment .... without solving the problem. Apparently, there is another adjustment which reduces overall alarm sensitivity ... and cannot be performed .... other than at the dealer. .... at least that was the information which I was given.

Thanks for the replies. I did not change the battery, it tested OK at Autozone . It is an 84 Month Toyota Power battery on month 50. So, I guess we will be keeping an eye on it.
