Canada GTA: Fuel Leak?

Hello all

This morning I went to fill some gasoline. At the station, while pumping I noticed some gasoline dripping onto the ground. Sure enough, it seems as if there is a leak but I do not know if it is the line or the filler neck. I want to fix this problem ASAP and was wondering ~approx how much this would cost at the mechanic or should I attempt to try this myself?

If I go to a mechanic, does anyone know any reasonable ones in Toronto?

Look under the car at the filler and vent tubes. These are connected to the tank by rubber hoses which could be leaking.

the tank itself is definetly not leaking. it seems near the filler or the metal line itself but it is hard to determine since the gasoline leaks and covers the line; making it hard to determine the origin

it could be the neck going from the filler mouth to the tank- it's a pretty common problem due to things such as rust...

don't think that many people can fix it though....I think most people replace the tank if it's one unit

I had similar problem before. It was my filler neck that leak due to all the rust on it. I tried different ways to fix the pipe, but it won't help, cox there is pressure inside the filler neck. I ended up buying a brand new filler neck from dealer, guess how much? almost 200 dollars~!!

Also, when you take off your OLD filler neck, there is a big chance that you will break the tube that connect the gas tank and the filler neck. This is because the plastic tube is all harden and cracked already, any stretch/pressure on it will break the tube!!

I fixed everything for around $250 CDN (including labour); labour is not expensive on this repair, only cost them around 30 mins in total. There were only a few bolts to loose and put back on during the whole repair.

I hope that helps

^ that's good to know

I haven't had to deal with this issue yet (knock on wood) and I didn't know that you could just buy a filler neck
