Fuel Tank Removal

I posted here before about fuel tank removal, but included other work that I wanted to do, so the responses were not as direct as I would have liked. That said...

I have a 1993 Camry 6 cyl that has a broken fuel return line. The stem at the tank rusted to the point that when I pushed slightly on the line it broke off while inspecting for source of a leak (I guess I found it).

Anyway, I am assuming the tank will need to be replaced and I am considering doing the job myself, however doing a search of the web I have found little about doing this sort of job. I know the obvious - empty tank, remove gas cap, but from there I really don't know what to expect or have any clue what to avoid.

I figure someone out there had to have replaced a tank and can provide some assistance or point me in the right direction to find some useful literature. Also, any tips on the best place to purchase a tank?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I live in northern Ohio and want to get this job done before it's too cold to comfortably crawl under a car.

Thanks.

Are you referring to the repair manuals?

This is right out of your manual:

1. Remove center exhaust pipe.
2. Remove fuel pump and sender electrical connector.
3. Remove fuel tank bands and slightly lower tank.
4. Disconnect fuel lines, inlet pipe and necessary brackets.
5. Remove fuel tank.
6. Reverse removal procedures to install.

Well, due to a number of circumstances I have not been able to take care of the fuel leak and before I do I thought I would drop in a few more questions:

1) I have not been able to locate a clear detailed diagram or photo of the connections on the fuel pump for this car. Does anyone know where I might find one?

2) This car was a real strong runner, however it basically sat for two years and I am concerned if it developed other problems from sitting. I know I need to repair the fuel leak and it needs a new exhaust system from the rear wheels up to the engine. I started the car on occasion (once or twice a month) and took it for short spins on our street. Even when it went for extended periods without being started, it would start with a turn of the key - what potential problems could I have after I get the car running?

I don't want to invest too much money if it is going to become a money pit. The body is in good shape, the interior needs cleaning. I like the car because it's a 6 cyl. which I prefer over a 4 cyl. It has 144K miles.

Any help with the fuel pump is appreciated and certainly welcome your knowledgeable advise regarding proceeding with the repairs.
