3rd Generation Idle problem

I've got this weird little problem.

I've got my self a new camry...well new(er), since my old 92 5s-fe needed some repairs. I replaced her with a 92 v6 auto...hehe.

This new car has only 170 000 km, and is in mint condition. However there is this slight problem. Sometimes when I'm in D and stopped at a light the car would try to take off on its own.

For example, I would be stopped with the brakes on and the car would accelarate brifely jumping forward. But it would settle just as fast as it started.

It just had a recent tune up, and I just seafoamed it too. The problem doenst seem to go away. The previous owner, my brother, said he had the issue when he got the car.

Has this happen to anyone else? I'm not sure if i'm being clear on whats happening, any ideas?

Timing belt and other sutff changed at 150 Km

Thanks guys,

Yes, I have had this happen before with my 95 4cyl. The Toyo Tech tightened/adjusted my rear brakes. The self adjusters were not working correctly and the front pads were doing most of the work. This fixed the stop light lurching.

I dont think its the breaks.

Because it also happens when i'm not on the brake. Eg: rolling to a stop, or like pulling into my driveway without using the pedals.

I should have been more clear.

When the car lurches, the rpms shoot to 2500 from idle and return to idle just as fast.

I'm sorry, but in your post you said that it happened when you (see above).
I haven't had a problem just rolling to a stop.

Yes i'm sorry,

Its really hard to describe the problem...Its not a big issue, but for someone who isnt used to it, you can get into a crash, esp when parking.

Lets say you are parking

You turn into the spot and inch your way until you're lined up ( well most of us anyway, I used to park with the ebrake and a slide before) So when you are moving up, you usually have your feet on the brake and let the car move in by itself.

What happnes is, the car will accelerate by it self, as if I am depressing the gas pedal; but i'm not. Then it would settle.

Could this be a timing issue? it only happens when i'm in D at idle without depressing the gas pedal

hmmmm. My car does that occasionally, but it doesn't seem to accelerate that much. Sometimes I have to hold the brake down hard when at a stop light. I honestly suspect that there's a small vacuum leak somewhere.

It's located inside the base of the throttle body. After you remove the big tube leading to the throttle body you will see a square or diamond shaped port leading to the idle air control valve. Spray throttle body cleaner liberally down in to that port and then go on to clean the rest of the throttle body while the cleaner in the idle air control valve soaks for a few minutes. Here's an article on cleaning the V6 throttle body:

http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/mainte...throttle_body/

If the throttle body cleaning doesn't eleviate the problem, I too would suggest you check all the vacuum lines carefully for cracks. Look carefully at the big tube leading to the throttle body and the vacuum line attached to the brake booster. It takes a fairly big vacuum leak to raise the idle speed that much, so I'm thinking the leak is from one of the larger vacuum lines.
