Hey, i'm brand new to site and recently got intrested in modding my Camry. I have a white '96, 2.2L engine. I just wanted to know if you guys could give me your opinions on how to go about starting the modding, haha i'm 17, i do have a good job but keep in mind i'm not rollin in the dough yet. It only has 53k miles on it and i'm thinkin it'll last me awhile. So any advice??

wow...53K thats great.

ok first off let me say it first, make sure u seaarch a question(any question) before you post. it makes is easier for us to give a good anwser if uve done ur homework.

the main question is how far u lookin to go with this car? most here with the 5sfe(your engine) are happy with a full suspension upgrade and a few intake and exhaust mods. you not going to make alot of power from any of it though(sounds great though). if ur lookin for that, ull have to turbo or engine swap. both are discussed alot here so searching will provide more info then we can in one post.

hope this helps and welcome to TN

Keep it stock, put your money toward something that will really help you - a down payment on a house or retirement or health care. It's a 2.2 Ltr 4 cylinder Camry for god's sake, not much you can do to increase HP without lots of cash and where are you going in a hurry anyway.

well man, if you want to do your best with a i4 camry, must you can go for is a turbo since theres no supercharger for it, umm i respect the other camry owners here when they say theres no need to modify...but if you do want to spend money on your car i'd say go for it...dats what i wanna do with mine...if i decide to keep it in the later years.
But and fore most go for suspension, TRD strut bar/TRD rear sway, i've heard that the H&R lowering springs are good,, Ebiach wont give you a noticeable drop but its ok, struts are many different choices

they are many camry modifiers here, MiltDoggie, Eye8Pussies are the only ones that come to my mind right now

give us an idea of how much you want to give towards your car and what you care more about, performance (but as stated before if you want a big gain you are going to need big money), appearance, handling, sound system, etc

What? What about the Ripp Mods SDS supercharger kit. I know they don't make it anymore, but it was made, and they do still exist.

Spoken like a true wagon owner.

j/k!

I have to admit, I can think of better things a 17-year-old guy can put his money toward than upgrading an older car. Y'know, like college savings, private music lessons, collectible coins and stamps, commodities futures, real estate, karate training, donations to local charitable organizations, seed money for entrepeneurial opportunities, mutual funds, political activism...

Oh who am I kidding, blow it all on NAWZZZZZ!

And the point is well made that it bothers the regulars here less when you take a few moments and click on the "Search" function before you ask questions, and at least browse the recent discussion from the past week. It's a lot easier than you think to find stuff in this place.

Good luck. And slow down. You're frightening the AARPies.

This supercharger made 200whp on the 5S-FE on stock internals with methonal injection @ 8psi w/ an auto tranny! They sold for US$3400 when they were still made.

I REALLY want one!

Some mods i reccomend-
1. wheels
2. injen/aem cold air intake
3. muffler or greddy evo2 catback if you can afford it
4. spark plugs and spark plug wires-the cheapest thing thats on this list
5. lowering springs or coilovers if you can afford it

But most of all you should give it a good wash and waxing. You can also debadge it if it makes a difference to you.
