I'm thinking about getting an Apexi N1 Universal Non-turbo muffler installed. I want something that's loud but has a good tone. Right now I have a Magnaflow oval muffler that's pretty quiet but the sound is good; it's a little raspy since I took the resonator out. If I get the Apexi, should I just install the muffler or should I change all the piping to 2.25". Will it be considerably louder than the setup that I have now? BTW, my car is a 4 cyl.
im running an apexi n1 universal n/a muffler with 2.25 piping ... no resonator and with the stock cat ... yea its loud....but its a good tone and not that raspy either... but yes, i would imagine it will be more louder than your current setup

i wouldnt increase the piping imo. unless u plan on going FI then its only gonna make the exhaust louder, which u may want. but it wont give any real power gains for the money. spend the money ud hae to pay to build teh catback and buy and mount highflow cats. that will make more of a differance then the larger cat back.

So it shouldn't sound too raspy without the resonator? Is $210 a good deal for the muffler and shipping?

How much of a difference would the high-flow cats be? Does it matter what brand the high-flow cat is? If increasing the piping size makes it louder, then that's what I'm probably going to do. I like the current sound but it's way too quiet. It's somewhat loud during WOT. I can get the everyting installed plus the piping done for around 150.
no dont do it, spend the extra money on putting on a nice resonator and higher flowing cat instead of the extra piping.
I had the apexi n1 n/a with 2.25" axle back and 2.5" straight pipe and it is loud but without the resonator it sounds not as good as it can be with the resonator cause of the rasp trust me it sounds so much better with a resonator just a small one is good enough. I got the aeroturbine resonator it's very good!!!
I ran with no cat cause mine was obd-1 (95') but soending money on a higherflow cat is better than extra piping hell you can leave the stock cat but buy a small resonator for sure then it would be loud and hott!!!
heres the website for the aeroturbine 2", I got the 2.5" cause the whole piping was already 2.5" but otherwise i would of gotten the 2" so just look around and you can find it a little cheaper than that and the noise levels dropping is not noticebale it's still loud but reduces the raspiness http://www.aeroexhaust.com/performan...ator_ar20.html
Trust me your saying that you want the loudness but apexi n1 is more than enough loud and sooner or later you will realize that the loudness is cool only when going wot, having it quite when just cruising around is ideal!!!

Ok. Felony, do you have any videos of your exhaust setup? Should I keep the stock piping but install the Aeroturbine resonator and N1 muffler? Or should I install the 2.25" piping as well. Would this resonator be significantly louder than the stock resonator that I have?
either way i'd go with putting on a resonator. I kept my stock one in with my N1 and liked the sound better than andy's (94autocamry). (*edit* no offense, andy)
Here's a short vid of my old setup (the cam is sold now) - custom cai and N1 exhaust (w/resonator)
^ np rich...i just switched the n1 to the apexi ws2 n/a muffler ...the n1 was beat up...it was time to change it up
If it's not too raspy without the stock resonator, I'll probably leave the resonator out. What do you mean the n1 was beat up? Like scratched up over time or lots of driving? Would you still recommend getting one?
^ yea but its like 3 years old.....it has a dent and the inlet pipe was cracked....so my muffler sounded like shhit... but yea, it was beat over time from all the driving...
when i switched over to the apexi ws2.....it sounded alot better than the cracked n1
but yea, apexi makes a quality muffler....just depends on how much you drive and etc...it should last for awhile if careful...
and that $150 you got quoted for....most likely the shop is going to use the "crush bent" piping... and not mandrel bent (which is better quality and more expensive)

^ not sure what so cali shops do the mandrel bent....but i think milt said he has mandrel bent piping on the catback exhaust system that hes selling...so you might want to PM him on where he got his exhaust setup done at
i'll look around for the business card from the place i got mine done. there are also places in like el monte, hacienda heights... heck even im sure right there in pasadena there might be some places. for an exhaust shop, i dont think mandrel bending is a problem.
