ive never used 5 full quarts, that must be dry capacity. i always ended up doin 3 3/4 and half a bottle of the lucas oil stabilizer. that put mine well beyond the low level.
hey im no scientist, but ive used lucas for years and years and its never done anything to make me think i shouldnt. i can see the argument but i also think that a product like that would have seen less use and popularity if it was actually harmfull to engines. not to mention lawsuits. also, it can be argued what the oil companies put or dont put in their oils to save money and keep up with competition. lots of oils have additives though, like high millage oils, high performance oils or synthetic oils(bonding properties).
plus i jsut noticed, he has an add for a company which sells loils with additives in them. a friend of mine races midgets and uses that stuff, its got all kinda of crap in it but damn does it work.
on mine 1mz i use all 5 qt even i change the filter too. if not, then about 4 1/3 qt.
and does the lucas really make a differences?

i dont know what u call differance? i did mix some with oil one time in a bucket out of couriosity and it was thicker and did cling to stuff longer, but i never put in the amount they suggest on the bottle. they say 1qt i never go more then half. so maby thats why my shit hasnt broke yet
i think bob [the oil guy] says if the oil COMES with an additive, then its okay ... because its manufactured to bind with the additive ... or something to that extent
maybe i read that somewhere else
the fact is tho ... lucas does cause air pockets in normal oils ... ive played with it myself, and its true
