3rd Generation 3vz JDM engines

Has anyone here had any good or bad experiences with purchasing used low milage engines from Japan.
I am in the Toronto GTA area and you like some pointers as my engines head gaskets are going (air/exhaust mixing with coolant).
I am also looking for someone locally to install as well.
Thanks

not usually much wrong with them, especially if you've got a warrantee...

but keep in mind that the jdm engines are not emissions spec with egr

so...how is the 3vz better? each has their strengths and weaknesses

but regardless of that topic.....swapping in a 1mz would be ALOT more work....mostly wiring...which is a bitch. with another 3vz, he can do a direct swap. in and out in a day for sure.

Cool

tigerjapan = owns. Just throw a new master gasket kit on it before it goes in and you're probably OK.

The crankshafts are sometimes (not very often) different too. They won't accept a US M/T because there isn't a relief machined into the end of the crankshaft.

If I was to just replace the head gaskets what are the chances the heads will be OK. Do the heads of the 3vz motor typically become worped at all, or are then generally good. I saw a valve grind head gasket kit on Ebay for $100 and I need the valve seals anyway to get rid of the start up Blue puff.
Thanks.

Cool

$50-100 at a machine shop will get your heads milled flat.
