speakers might be a goner... thats how mine was when i just put in a deck.. it sounded horrible so i just replaced them all..

double check all your connections. were your speakers working before you installed the new unit? have you checked the settings on the unit?
If you've got money/time replace your stock speakers.

yeah the speakers worked fine before, and i also tested them with a battery to make sure they had a "pop" to them, and they all worked besides one speaker, do you think that one speaker would cause the rest to not work?? because that might be the problem..
im guessing by your user name you have a 95 also. in that case, dont even try to mess with the old ones. just replace them all. had the same/similar problem with mine when i installed a cheap-oh pioneer 3900MP. it seem like the stockies could handle the little extra power. and with the new speakers, the sound quality will be improved..

Yep, the speakers are just bad on the '95 (I have an LE).
When I was replacing my speakers and stereo this past June, I swapped out the speakers first. Even with the OEM radio, the sound quality increased tremendously, to the point where I was briefly thought "should I return the new radio?"
I think it's a little early to condem the speakers. When I purchased my 95 had an aftermarket radio and stock speakers. After I got it I sub'd out the radio for a Clarion I used on the previous car. In both cases the speakers worked fine and still do. If you bought the radio from a car audio store then I would contact them for tech help. I would first check the wiring and of course your radio balance/fade adjustments.

got my cd player from best buy.. and i did take my car to a buddy of mine's shop. and they said the speakers gotta go.. they are 12 years old speakers. i mean if you if have a deck/head unit/ cd player what ever you want to call, mind as well go another step and get new speakers to take advantage of the new deck capability of putting out better sounds quality. thats just me 2 cents.

thanks a lot guys, but i think stillrunning is right, because i DID have an after market radio in there before i replaced it (it went bad). it was a jvc 4x40, and i replaced it with a pioneer 4x50, and the speakers did work with the jvc before, so idk whats going wrong.
I'm still using the stock speakers in my '95 XLE with a new JVC head unit, and they sound good enough that I've decided to put off getting new speakers for awhile.
As said before. Double check your wiring. Check your ground wire too.
Did you wire everything direct from the new head unit or did you use an aftermarket wiring harness? Could have a bad harness.
Did you perhaps plug the new head unit into an aftermarket wiring harness for the old head unit? Could have a mismatched wiring harness.
Could the new head unit be bad? If you have another head unit available, try hooking it up to see if it works. You said your old one died, but did it totally die or did you just lose CD or Radio? i.e. did it still function to the point where you could reconnect just to check the speakers? Or do you happen to still have the factory original?
Unfortunately to get to the speakers you have to remove the door panels and the rear deck, so if it comes to that then I'd go ahead and get new speakers whether the factory ones turn out to be bad or not. No point in doing all that labor just for testing the speakers.
One thing to note if you decide to get new speakers. Make sure you get something that will work well with the RMS power rating on your deck. I'm assuming the 4X50 that you quoted is Peak Power, which means your RMS is probably more like 20W. If you hook up high end speakers that are rated at 100W, I can almost guarantee you'll be disappointed with the sound. Not that they'll sound "bad", they just won't sound like you'd expect a high end speaker to sound if you under power them. Most head units have internal amps that will push average speakers. If you get high end speakers, you'll need an outboard amp to power them.
i used the stock wiring, and an aftermarket harness from my old radio, the radio was functional but i could not play cd's and could not adjust the volume, but yes it did technically work. i made sure all the wiring was correct when i put it in, also i tested the speakers from the old harness connecting the wires off the speakers to a battery which made a "pop" sound.
