some transmissions have trouble finding the right speed/rpm for overdrive. try going a touch faster or slower to find the sweet spot where it shifts.

do you have a v6 or an i4? i believe their ratios run a little differently in that the i4's will run higher because the engine lacks torque so they tuned it to use more HP.

the v6 will hit 3K rpm at approx 82 mph.

I have an I4. My 2003 Camry 2.4 liter hits 3000 RPM at 87 mph. Why does my 96 I4 rev higher at 75 mph ?

4th Generation

most likely because our camrys only have 4 gears on overdrive and 3 gears with no overdrive =/
i have the same problem when i drive

on main roads i make sure i drive as high as i can to hit the 2nd gear to slow down and use as less gas as possible at 1.4k rpm ish

Because it's not as powerful so it needs more power from the engine to drive at those speeds?

I agree. Even wind can make an effect on rpms at high speed.
My 99 I4 hits 3000 rpm somewhere between 75 and 80 mph. But 3100 at 70 seems to be a bit high, BUT there might be different transmission and engine on GEN 3 that makes this difference. All Hondas have rpms noticably higher, for example.

Cool

instead of bothering us with a continous bombardment of redundant questions, why don't you do the math that tells you the engine speed VS vehicle speed yourself.......................................... .................................................. .................................................. .....
