Question How to dispose of struts/springs???

Hi,

I have changes front struts and rear strut/spring assemblies. Now, how to get rid of springs assembled with struts??? I can drill holes in struts, but what can I do about springs??? My inflamed imagination creates pictures of a garbage truck compressing a spring and then then the spring is getting released, flies thorugh the garbage, brakes the wall and kills a garbageman.

What was your experience with this?

In Chicago there are hundreds of mexicanos driving junker/salvage trucks picking up scrap metal. I gave em my old struts.
