Fuel Pump Replacement

This may sound stupid, but my car has 124k on it, 2000 camry 5sfe, and I have no idea if the fuel pump has ever been replaced.

It works fine w/o probs, but I'm wondering how long they generally last and if there is a good chance it has been replaced at some time. How long are they generally good for 60-70K??

I'm thinking it might be a good idea to replace it anyway if it's likely to have a good amount of miles on it. I'd like to avoid being stranded in the future because of it.

the fuel pump isn't something that is considered regular maintenance

No, I meant Pump. Filter is easy to change...no big deal. I'm new to toyota's, and more curious how long the pumps generally last??

I don't want to take my car on a trip only to find the pump decides to give out at the wrong place and wrong time.

But then again, I don't want to change it if there is a good chance it has already been replaced based on my mileage. Or do these pumps last forever too? Car looks like it has the original starter and alternator as well.

Did you mean to say the 'water pump'?

thats typically a part that doesnt just die one day. ull notice when it starts to malfunction and a code will likely trip. but if ur that worried about it then go ahead and change it. that way youll KNOW it will last for a long time. but ive seen fuel pumps las 200K miles before needing a change.

i wouldnt replace it unless its bad. and when they do go bad, the car is still a little driveable (at least when ive had them go). the car would starve and shut off. if i waited 15 minutes, i could drive again, but it would only drive for about 10 more minutes until it shut off again. wait 15 more minutes and continue the cycle.

ive also never had a bad fuel pump throw up a code. i would think it should have...
