crankshaft pulley bolts

I am planning to do timebelt on my 96 toyota camry Le 4 cylinder 5sfe engine. Before i start this major project, I have few questions about what tools and size bolts to remove crankshaft pully. previous people posted in this forum size of bolts used to remove crackshaft pully (60mmX70mm) . are the size bolts right? can that size of bolts i can get from home depot?

has anyone order harmonic balancer pulling tool to remove 96 toyota Camry Le 4 cylinder online? suggest websites online to buy the harmonic balance pulling tool...is the tool really expensive? how much?

now, when i put back the crankshaft pulley...What do do I need to get it back on ? do I need a special tool for that?

This topic has been covered numerious times in TN Camry posts, suggest dong a search and read posts at the bottom of this page. Most Toyotas models (engines) have the same requirements (and tools) to remove their balancer.

To pull the balancer off you need a bolt-on style puller available for sale at tool and autoparts stores or perhaps tool rental locations. For cheap tools (cost and quality) try Habor Freight, they have both stores and mail order sales (do a Google search on their name for website).

As you will most likely only use the tool once, try renting one, or buy the cheapest you can find. Ebay might list them. The tool is not special but it does bolt to the balancer instead of griping it with fingers (as per typical pulling tool).

Not sure on bolt size, your size sounds much to big. Guessing something like 10-12mm diameter. They are standard metric bolts available at hardware stores.

No special tools required to install the pulley.

One issue is holding the pulley when loosening and tightening the pulley bolt. You will need a way to hold the pulley to prevent it from moving. You can use a strap wrench, fabricate a tool that bolts to the pulley (using the holes you attached the puller to) or use and impact air wrench. Some people remove the starter and jam a screwdriver into the ring gear teeth.

toyomoho has said essentially all you need to know.

I'd like to stress that you can rent a harmonic ballancer puller/installer tool set FOR FREE from Autozone or other similar store. Maybe an installer isn't a "must get" tool, but it is very helpful.

To remove the pulley, the starter kick worked fine for me. It is harder to figure it out how to tighten the bolt back. I used some set of keys to hold the pulley against the strut, but in my case the pulley didn't look "standard" (you can search, I had a picture of it somewhere).

the crank bolt is either a 22 mm (need a 1/2 inch socket sized 22 mm) or it is very close but size it first. You will need the socket that fits and a good size breaker bar. then just brace it against a solid engine part and bump the starter, voila, thee b olt is off.

You can use a steering wheel puller to get the pulley off. Most of them come with several pairs of bolts and one pair ought to fit inside your pulley. Harbor freight has the cheapest stuff that would do the job, the one shown is $9.99(i dont pay premium for tools that are only getting used every couple years).
