Gen3 3VZ & Towing

Hey Guys... Im considering purchasing a boat (just a small open boat, 500kg or so in total) and was wandering, what is the max you can tow (unbraked trailer) on the 3VZ? I couldnt find what its rated for on any sites I know of, they only provided from Gen4 onwards (which could only tow 500kg). I ASSUME it could tow more then the Gen4, as the 3VZ has more torque down low (albeit less overall) and Im quite sure it has twin piston calipers unlike the Gen4.

Any help appreciated!

Check with your motor vehicle department on brake requirements, usually there is a weight limit beyond which trailer brakes are required. Towing 1 ton is very possible but would not want to do this for long distances or on any hills. Braking is OK but you will defiantly know the trailer is behind you.

500kg is fine without trailer brakes. Suggest you lockout the O/D on hills; make sure you do not overload the car even more by adding lots of passengers and trunk items. If you do tow on regular basis or take long trips suggest adding an oil cooler to keep trans fluid temps down. Or at least change the fluid more often.

Thanks guys

Yeah its around 500-600kg with trailer... Im tempted to get a braked trailer (although I believe my Gen3 has twin piston calipers,.... one time going down a steep hill I had massive brake fade... they aernt the greatest brakes I suspect due to their size) and I was also thinking about a tranny cooler because I dont think my tranny is in a great state as is let alone towing something.
