I have noticed that my RPM are at about 600 + when I start my car (warm start ) , when I stop at intersection its about 600+ RPM . However , after I drive a bit, stop , and put my transmission in parking mode , RPM are going to 900 - 1000 ..
When I was cleaning my TB (recently), there was little hole on the side , I think this is port to IAC .. Could it be that dirt got inside of IAC and it mulfunctioning . Should I take IAC off and clean it ? Could it it be TPS ? Engine runs fine and very stable
What can be a cause of high RPM when in parking
I'll try to spray carb cleaner on vacum hoses , maybe I have vacum leak ? It feels like car get boost of air when I put it in parking .. My friend has same car with half miles , his RPM are always the same
Might be IAC valve (at the bottom of throttle body) an issue with the gear indicator switch, wiring. The gear indicator switch tells the ECU which gear is selected and to adjust the idle RPM via the IAC valve. If the TPS there is a trouble code for this.
I just drow my car again .. If my car is worm , RPM at about 600 + when I start , even at parking .. Hower If drive it for 1-2 min , put it back in parking it goes higer by about 300 ... I lett my car run for another 10 min , it would not drop RPM ... Then I stopped an engine for bout 3 min , started again and RPM went to normal 600 +
I did clean my IAC - I sprayed trough the TB port . This is when its all started . I opened TB port and spayed some more today (second cleaning).. Now RPM are even higher 1000+ (when car is really worm/hot ) When car is warm its at around 900.
I think my IAC is mulfunctioning . Would it be a good idea to buy new IAC or should i try to take off existing IAC to trougly celan it .. All i did so far is spryed into IAC port inside TB ...
Reason for cleaning IAC in the first place was low idle, rough and unstable idle . After inital cleaning , idle is very stable its just a little high . So cleaning help to resolve my rough idle issue , but it created high idle issue ..
I would hat to buy new IAC if its not going to resolve this isse .. Also , I should mention that a lot of dirt from TB got into IAC when I was cleaning it . I spryed into IAC after TB in hope that that dirt would go trough
Do a TN history search, there was a thread about removing the IAC and cleaning it. Be sure to use a cleaner that is save for plastic. There have been reports of some cleaners causing long term IAC damage.
The link below provides access to Gen_3 service manual info. There is also a section on troubleshooting the engine for high idle speed.
OP,
It seems you are on the right track with the cleaning. When I did ours (V6), I removed it and really hosed it out. That was the charm. Since the idle got higher but stable it seems as if the IAC may now be stuck in one position. A more thorough cleaning may remedy that.
Yesterday I ordered new gasket from rockauto .. Later on I took off my TB (it actually has a metal gasket , so I am not going to need a new gasket )
Now I have a problem - I can unscrew IAC holding bolts , you are soppose to use philips screwdriver .. I would not go .. I spryaed liquid wrench over night, but I can't get it off .. I am scare as some of the bolts are a bit damaged , I don't want to mess them up as I might need to buy a new TB for (600 +) ..
Anyways , any suggestion as how to unscrew IAC holdning bolts ? Alse where can I gent new bolst (I want to replace them )
I am sure someone run into same issue before
Thank you
P.S. Just called Dealer , they have bolts .. 2.50 a peace .. oh well - I want to do it right , in case I need to take it apart again ..
I tlaked to a friend about removing my bolts .. He said I should use screwdriver and hammer .. Basically should lightly knock on the scredriver while trying to unscrew IAC mounting bolt
Just in case someone else wants to disassemble TB and IAC ..
TB has flat metal gasket - I do not think you need to replace it
IAC has robber gasket - according to mfg manual you need to replace it (mine looks perfect - I am going to replace it anyways )
Hose pliers came VERY handy in halping take hoses off . It took me 45 min to take 1 of 3 hoses off . Then I went and bought hose pliers - took 3 min to take other 2 hoses
Manual Impact driver($20 at Sears) came handy in loosening IAC bolts (even though I stripped some of them before I got impact driver, I have bolts on order from dealer)
