4th Generation 2001 Camry XLE

Hi, I have a 2001 Camry XLE with a Toyota sunroof (at least I think it's a Toyota sunroof, it has Toyota glass on it).

One of my friends climbed up on my roof and sat on the roof portion and kinda caved in the exterior shell on top of the passenger side (which I fixed by hitting it from the inside) I shone a flashlight up there and it appears fine.

However, now I have another issue. My sunroof will open (that is, the back part will go up and let air in through the back). It will also go to the neutral position. But when I try to retract it into the roof, it will not retract. When I look at the car from the outside, it appears one side of the sunroof glass is like half a cm lower than the other in all 3 modes.

I have looked at the Gen 4 Toyota manual for body repair and it looks like way too much work for me to strip the upper interior of the car out to repair the sunroof (I'm an EE major in college and don't have a whole ton of time on my hands).

I live in Austin, TX and I was wondering who I should take my car to get it repaired (a dealer? body-shop? random garage?). I wouldn't mind paying a small premium over el-cheapo garage shop to see that my baby is in good hands.

Yeah I would take it to a dealer. I would also drive up to my friend's house and strangulate him for good measure. Even if the roof looks good and doesn't look bent when you reflect light on the paint with a flashlight, the inner rail might be still bent inside the roof.

Was the sunroof open of close when he sat on it?

I would kick ur frd if I were you, especially when you seem to love ur car so much. At least make pay for part if not all of the bill on fixing the roof.

Its going to be an expensive repair as its gonna involve a lot of taking a part and putting back together, very labor intensive. You can somewhat try and reduce the price by first removing some pieces and giving the repair people an easier time at it? Not sure if it will work though.
