Canada Suspension question

I found some brand new OEM strut and spring (the whole thing) cost $180 each

How are they compare to the aftermarket one?
I am planning to do something to my suspensions, because I am still running the original stock strut and spring. I want my ride to be more firm, especially when turning. I have seen some k sport spring and tokico strut or KYB. I am wondering what are the differences? and I need some advices. I want my ride to be more firm, I dont know if getting those OEM thing will work or not. PLEASE HELP

: )

Plenty of information, about suspensions...u might try a search...or the FAQ in the sticky portion of the Gen 3 forum...but, I love my HR sports and KYB's...handles great and rides smooth.

First of all, thx q. I am trying to search through internet as well as the forum. But I know some of the suspensions are for 4 cylinders only. I guess I can't put them on v6 right? I have no clues..

winter is hard all suspension setups is just that on average full body coilovers don't last as long as a strut/spring combo thats about it.

If its a daily driver just go with Tokico or KYB with a set of oem springs. The after market struts alone will stiffen up the ride pretty well. On a scale of 1 to 10 (1= factory stock, 10=race track hard), aftermarket struts + oem springs would be around 3 or 4. If you add aftermarket springs, maybe a 5 or 6 and give you a nice drop too. Unless you go to the track often, coilovers on a daily driver don't make sense. They would be anywhere from a 5 to a 10. Then you'd have to adjust them over and over untill you find the balance between confort and performance that suits you. Once you've done all that it may end up being a 4 or 5, so you would have been better off just getting aftermarket struts and springs for half the cost of the coilovers. A good set of coilovers would be around $1200 at least. The aftermarket struts and spring together would be around $600 give or take. Another thing to consider would be rims and tires. A combo of aftermarket struts and springs plus slightly larger and wider rims would really boost your car's cornering ability. But all this has just been my personal opinion. Ultimately it's all up to you.

ull ware the shocks out much faster with out stiffer springs though. springs are what give u that stiff ride, the shocks just control the bound and rebound which is that rigid quality. if anything id just get some eibachs with a small drop and stick with OEM shocks.

if your looking for a fun suspension that is still practicle for a daily driver then get kyb gr2 struts and eibach pro-kit or sportline springs.

Im about to get tokico hpk coilovers.

just to clarify:

KYB's are the same as OEM struts ... the factory struts are rebadged

the GR-2 is an upgraded version of those ^

No they are not.

Please clarify your sources.

It is misconception that the gr-2s are oem replacements. But they are in fact stiffer and still considered a "performance" suspension strut. KYB is supposed to have manufactured oem struts though and they were rebadged as Toyota (at least at some point in the past they were).

They are by no means as stiff as Tokicos or Konis though
