My words: GOOD LUCK, I hope I will finally get my car back from the shop TOMMROW! It has been in and out 2 now! But like Phi says; "Be patient, don't rush your mechanic" mabey then they will get it right the first time!
I found one in Nova Scotia.. I'll have to call tomorrow for the price..
I will also verify other local scrap yard for Solara transmissions... If you want, I will verify if there is a way to get 2 of them.. Shipping to toronto is not too expensive.. Or just come visit the french canadians to pick up the tranny
I'll also try to get the solara ecu.. in case that I find a cheap 1mzfe to put under my hood
you dont need a new ecu, and the tranny code in your gen 3 is E153, not E53... IT is the EXACT same transmission, except newer and maybe slightly different gearing, im not sure. It will bolt up in the same place as the one on there now. Its not even that difficult of a job to do yourself.

actually he is right, the e53 is a single cone, the newer e153 in gen4s/solaras have a dual cone
Originally posted by Ratko the 91-92 MR2 Turbos also have single cone synchros, and its still an E153. I'm 99.9% sure the 92-93 Camry/ES300 tranny is the same code.
Unless you have some hard proof of that E53 code, Im gonna have to politely disagree.
I went to my toyota dealer and they told me it was an E53..
Is is possible that it's because I have a "Sport Edition" ?

i doubt it.
Either way... if you can find me a 97+ tranny also, Camry or Solara, please let me know!!! Thanks bro... I might come to Quebec depending on if it works out..... thanks.
I glanced at your site, nice swap. I do have a few questions fr you though.
1)I know MR2 E153 are LSD but I never knew Toyota offered the Camry with one, was this specific to JDM?
2)Also are the tranny bellhousing's different from Camry E153 and MR2 E153 because they do have different engine codes?
3)Are Camry E153 inner half shafts the same as MR2 E153 inner half shafts? Spline and radial diameter as well as depth to be specific.
The reason I ask is cause I have a MR2 E153 bolted to my 2nd Gen 3sgte in my FF 88 Celica GTS. I spent about 8x more for that tranny and wanted to know if I could have saved myself a bunch of cash if I went with the Camry E153 instead.

Not all mr2 e153's are LSD. The camry never had an LSD offered, only the MR2, there are a few manufacturers of aftermarket LSDs for the E153 tranny...

They all are the same. They will all have the same bolt locations.

The intermediate shafts ARE different, those are model specific.
Ratko, back me up here, i could be wrong...
If you want LSD, either go with the MR2 LSD tranny, or go with an aftermarket LSD (Quaife, TRD, Others...) on a tranny from a newer camry (97-01) or Solara(98-02) or a non-LSD mr2. The models of the E153 do have slightly different gear ratios, and im not sure about the specifics of those, but ratko would know i beleive... ACTUALLY, there is a really good thread about the E153 tranny and the different models on the camry forum somewhere... it was about amonth ago, i would say do a search and try to find that...
I have a 92 Camry V6 Sport with a manual transmssion I am parting with. The car has significant mileage but the transmission has not shown any problems. Would you be interested in the transmission. It is in Ottawa.

How much is ratko offering you for the tranny ?
What's the condition of the wiper pivots and front grill ?
Also.. what is the color of the car.. I may need fenders and driver door mirror if it's electric and built in japan..
