Any tips on how to adjust that without going to a mechanic? I have tried rotating the distributor, and that helped, but I can not get it so it runs perfectly. Right now it pings.

Also, you might want to rotate the engine to tdc (top dead center) and see if your crank pulley mark is at zero degrees or within a few degrees.
