Oversized oil filter....

Ive seen on these forums where someone used an oversized oil filter. Is this OK?

For instance, my car takes a filter that is smaller than the one that my RX-7 and Accord took (both took the same size), but the mating surface (ie, rubber gasket) is the same on the one that is meant for my camry and the one from my RX-7/Accord.

Would it hurt to use the larger one? Will it cause any damage?

Thanks guys!

I use one for a 2001+ Rav4. It is same circumference and threads, just longer. I've had no problems.

What is the advantage to this...a longer lasting filter or what?

I know that the Camry's filter is pretty small... but it's what the Toyota dealership gives me when I pick up filters. If they use it, it's good enough for me.

Speaking of which, are there any online stores where I can pick up 10 or so filters at a discount? Some place like www.handa-accessories.com (for Hondas) or www.ipdusa.com (for Volvos).

Because it's larger, it can hold and trap more contaminants. It's not really necessary, but it cost the same and gives me peace of mind.
