ignition problems please help

my friend has a 97 v6 auto. we tryed to start the car but it was dead, then u hooked up the bateries but it made a really bad clicking noice and wont start

yep, either that or the battery needs a good recharge, not just a jump start. how long was the car sitting without being started? get yourself a $20 battery charger and charge the battery overnight then try again.

If you are hearing multiple rapid clicking noises, you have either a weak battery (battery itself or a problem with the charging system), poor or corroded connections at the battery post/terminal end or at the starter itself, or the cables running form the battery to the starter are drawing too much current. It also sounds like when you tried to jump start the car, one or more of the jumper cables did not make a good connection, or the jumper cables you used were too thin of a gage to carry the electrical load needed to start the car.
