4th Generation H or T rated tires?

I need new tires for my 01 Camry LE but I'm not sure what speed rating to go with. The current tires on the car are Goodyear Eagle GT 92H. They're about to hit 80,000 miles but still have 2mm tread left. If I go with T-rated tires would they last longer?

T rated wont last longer, it simply indicates that they can handle higher speeds. You need to look at the "tread wear" rating for the tires, the higher the rating, the longer they last. Just remember that each company calculates the tread wear differently, so one companies tread wear of 360 many not be they same as another companies tread wear of 360.

The Goodyears have a 440 rating and I've put 77,000 mi on them. I didn't think they would last this long! I notice the treadwear rating for T rated tires are usually higher than H rated tires. That's why I am thinking if I should go with a T rated tire.

Generally speaking, you will find lots of high mileage tires with T-ratings, but there are good tires that last a long time with H-ratings.

However, I would pick tires carefully. I've had T-rated and even S-rated tires that seemed to last forever (I even got close to 100K on one set), but rode really stiff and grip was terrible.

These sites have a lot of reviews on tires.

One tire I wouldn't recommend on a Camry are Falken ZE-512s. It's actually a good tire in terms of grip, ride, and quality and even price, but was just too loud.

My dad installed Good Year Regatta IIs on his 96 Camry many years ago. I liked those tires, but can't tell you how the tires were on the long-run because he sold the car not too long after putting on new tires.

Thanks for the info. I will stick with H rated tires. Comfort and noise is more important to me than grip and handling.

3 years ago I went to Americas Tires for a set of Kumho T rated tires. When I got to the store the salesman would not sell them to me because he said they could get into legal trouble for selling tires that didn't meet the car's speed rating. I thought he was trying to use a sales tactic to lure me into buying more expensive tires. So I ended up walking out and going to Sears to buy the Goodyears.

I had the Regatta 2's on my old Taurus. They were horrible in the rain with just half the tread left. I wouldn't recommend them.

I'm considering the Kumho Ecsta ASX. They seem to get good reviews and the price is great.

I currently have Michelin Hydro Edges on my car (99 Altima) and for the price they don't live up to their name.

ASX is good. friends have put it to the track and yielded good results for an all season tire for such a cheap price.

the T/H ratings are just speed. if you dont plan on tracking or driving at speeds past 100 mph for an extended period of time, T speed ratings will do fine.

I do not recommend the ZE 512's. Sidewall too soft. the ZE 912's came out to replace the 512's for a reason. And i currently run the 912's with 17" rims that are also wider, and i like them for an all season tire.
But im still a yokohama fan boy. haha
