Unhappy 3th gen - trunk does not close...need help!!!

hi,

when i open the trunk today, i notice i cant close it.

the lock on the trunk does not lock up.

i tried putting a screwdriver through it as if i was closing the trunk and the lock does not stay put. it opens itself again.

does anyone know what i can do to fix this?

Do you mean that the latch isn't engaging (closing back shut?) Have you tried spraying some wd40 or some white lithium grease in the mechanism? The little spring that lets it latch back might've lost some tension.

yes, the latch is not engaging. ive tried spraying wd40 already. ive tested to see if it engages and it does but the problem is after engaged, it goes back.

so it doesnt stay put.

When you opened it..did you open it with the key or the pull latch from inside the car?

If inside the car...make sure that the cable is not staying pulled, thus keeping the lock from engaging. It's possible that the cable is binding somewhere and is keeping it from retracting.

Well..youll have to trace it from the pull latch inside the car. It runs down the driver side of the car. If you pull out the bottom of the back seat (no bolts) then you should be able to see it close to the edge.

You might be able to spray some wd40 or w/e your choise lubricant is down the cable and try to work it out. Take off the plastic piece that covers the trunk/gas pull latches and check it out. It's only 2 philips head screws.

They also make an actual cable lube (got mine from a harley shop) that is made for these type cables.
