it doesnt prevent heat from getting into the engine bay ... it prevents people from touching the exhaust manifold, or from things dropping onto it and getting melted instantly
you cant take them off and not worry about anything, if youre careful when working in the engine bay
theres no reason to remove them tho, because the exhaust pipes are ugly as shit .... better off just painting the manifold like i did unless youre gonna buy headers

lol damn you hit my next ? dead on. I thought they might look somewhat decent compared to header shots I've seen floating around here. If they're busted up, I'm leaving this on :/ Just wanted to clean up my engine bay a bit more (besides removing the tons of dirt in there ).
anyone have a pic of their pipes with the cover removed?

yeah, i have one of Adam's car ... and one from a junkyard (only the top-half of the manifold is on):
they always look like brown rust, and you cant paint them unless you have Duplicolor High Heat paint cuz everything else will melt off

I dont know i kinda like them with it off... The only thing is the parts where you screw the Heat sheild on looks kinda ackward on it... i was thinking about chroming the stock headers and getthing those removed... depending on how much it cost...
I read in a older post that wiring lumbs around the headers get like really brittle and eventually break... And the paint job on the hood eventually gets affected too... Depending on the colour
I think im goin to remove mine though (i put mine back on)
