caliper pin w/ little rubber sleeve

I completed a brake job, rotors and pads. The caliper pin in the rear has a small rubber sleeve the is set in its own groove, you know the one.
Guess what ? I sanded the pin, clean with braqke cleaner and applied anti-siese to the pin including that little rubber. I then place the pin into the bore of the torque plate and it won't fit. The little rubber appeared to have increased in size causing it to not even begin to enter the torque plate. It must have been to the cleaner and/or anti-sieze. I remove the rubber sleeve just to finish the brake job. My neighbor encountered similiar problem.
What is your take on this ? I didn't expect it.

It is a tight fit for the pin to insert through the rubber grommet. I have never had either anti-seize or brake cleaner swell the rubber. I usually remove the grommet for cleaning. I also always make sure I grease the pin bore as well as the pin as that grommet tends to wipe the pin clean of grease. You should burp the grommet of air as well to make sure no air pressure will press the pad against the rotor causing heating and premature wear. Are you sure it's not air pressure holding the pin back? Maybe try removing the grommet and sliding it over the pin first, then slip the pin in and slide the grommet down into position last.

The rubber sleeve appears raised higher then the diameter of the pin. It does fell like air is holding back but this is because it can;t even insert the pin at all into the torque plate bore.
I removed the sleeve and maybe get new pins in the future if the price is right.
Those rubber sleeves neccessary ?

If you're into new pins you're probably into a new caliper. Problem with removing the boot/sleeve/grommet etc. is water will get into pin bores and rust the pins and bores. Your calipers could stick on and you will wear the pads and possibly overheat the rotors. Make sure you don't have the rubber sleeve upside down.

The new bolt with the rubber sleeve in the grove is about $10-$15 at the Toyota dealer. I would just go get a new one. Bring the old pin with you so they will know which pin you are talking about.

REDSOXSTICKET, did you use the PB Blaster I suggested earlier with the rubber seal in the caliper? If so that might have caused this problem. I have just read the label on the can and it states: "restores life to "O" rings and rubber seals." That means it may swell rubber. An unforseen consequence in this case. I have never had this problem because I dismantle the calipers before cleaning and have never needed to use PB Blaster as I keep my slides lubricated.

no, I was able to remove the stuck caliper pin by applying heat to the bore of the torque plate. However, the rubber bushing remained in the bore, I had to remove w/ wire to reveal a damaged bushing.
The bushing on the other caliper was exposed to cleaner fluid when removing the tarnish film from the metal caliper sleeve.
Purchased rubber bushings at TOY, greased the pin being careful not to touch the rubber bushing (just in case) and installed.
Lesson learned.
THX again.
