95 Camry Wheel issue or Bearing ?

I have a 1995 Camry LE with 162k on the car. My problem is I have a scraping sound coming from the front drivers side wheel, sounds more like a tire scraping plastic. You can feel a slight scraping in the floor board at you feet. Not sure if it is just resonating to my feet thru somthing else ?

I replaced the brakes and rotors left and right sides along with the CV axle on the drivers side. My problem still exists. I thought maybe a wheel bearing or hub issue but cant get any movement out of the wheel when the car is jacked up and you try the side to side method.

I tried swapping out rims front to back with no help there either. I did notice a small area of the brake caliper where somthing like the rim had wore a groove into the rear area of the caliper as you look at it mounted on the rotor.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Sometimes it can be more simple then you think. Did you check to see if the Rotor dust shield thingy (Metal backing) is bend onto the rotor making a scraping?

Yes I did that lastnight ( backing plate) when I swapped out the wheels from the front to the back. I even removed the hub caps.

I ordered a new hub and wheel bearing for the 1 side and will install it tonight, with any luck I will repost back here tomorrow morning with the results.

Just in case the hub might be tweeked or out of round and it might be rubbing the caliper is my reasoning behind just going new.

Just a little update, I got my parts for the hub swap, but to my dismay, it came in pieces. I was short a 30mm deep socket to get the lock nut off for the hub also.

Question, because I now have to remove the spindal to replace the bearing and hub, how tuff is it to remove the bearing ? also how tuff is it to press the new bearing in.

I didn't see any new races in my box or a dust cover for the back of the spindal, how important is it to replace these items

I will up date this again tomorrow after I get the project done.

3rd Generation

I pulled the spindle and hub set up off, and it was a wheel bearing that was making all the sound " plastic rubbing sound" from the drivers side front wheel.

The new bearing and hub is being pressed as we speak, so I should have it back together in a couple hours.

So the bottom line is, if your CV joints are new and you hear a speed specific rubbing and you get no side to side or in or out move from the wheel bearing. Chances are its still bad.
