4th Generation Damn CEL go away! help

Having some troubles with some codes. Cannot make them go away.

Ever since I have had my exhaust I have been getting a p0420 Catalyst Efficiency under threshold. To solve this problem I used the nonfouler trick to extend the o2 sensor. This gets rid of the 420 code, however after a couple days I get a p1130 code. I know what both of these codes are but why would I only see this code after extending the rear sensor? Both sensors were recently replaced with o2 sensors from sparkplugs.com (car is california model w/highflo cat) Any ideas?

what do you mean by extending the rear sensor? did you have to splice in wire to make the connection? how did you connect the new o2 sensor to the old wiring? maybe there is more resistance so its throwing up a code?

Whats up with your harness? If you had to extend it that kind of looks like crap

Just be sure you have a good connection with those wires. The p1130 code refers to the bank 1 sensor 1 O2 sensor. Usually that pops up when it's a bad sensor but that would be odd since you just replaced it. I say go over your wiring again and make sure there aren't any shorts or other problems.

do check your wiring. while it looking pretty isnt a must, keeping the wires connected, free of dirt and most importantly, dry is a must.

I can't see the photo, but a non-fouler doesn't mean that the wiring is extended (usually), but that the sensor itself it set out of the exhaust flow so it reads abnormally low (or high, however you want to see it) showing the CAT is doing its job even if its not.

Sounds like the defouler and the 1130 are separate problems.

BTW, for anyone searching this later -

If you car is newer than 8 years / 80,000 miles, you have a federal emissions warranty that covers the catylitic converter.

Im in the process of checking the wiring right now for the front air/fuel sensor. However, if the wiring was bad, wouldn't the cel come on right away, instead of waiting a day or 2? Also noticed today going to and from class on the interstate I was maintaining a constant speed and was running incredibly rich 10s even down to "rich". However, no cel.

*edit* Just took off some of the electrical tape covering the wire connectors, and a wire just slipped out. Ill reconnect these wires and post back some updates. Thanks all for the help. Hopefully this is what was causing it.

you only used electrical tape!?! one bad rainstorm or big puddle and the tape wont sick as well. get some heat shrink tubing to cover the wires more permanently.

You shouldnt have spliced it so far under the car...you should have spliced it where it has more protections. SOLDER the wires and then use heatshrink tubing over the solder joints.
