4th Generation Is there an adjustment for the window regulator?

I have a 1999 Camry and the driver side front door window seal was messed up in the upper rear corner. So I got a replacement from the junkyard. I figured there was something wrong with the way the window rolled up that caused the last seal to be ruined. I had to take the glass out to get the new seal in. Now that I have it all back together it seems worse. I tried to pull the window up and back toward the corner and then tighten the two bolts that hold the glass to the regulator. This helps but isn't enough to keep the back edge of the glass properly seated against the seal as it rolls up. It wants to come forward and out of the frame.

Is there any way to adjust the regulator, glass, or guides? Or is there possibly a worn bushing or something in the regulator?

Thanks for the help.

The regulator is fixed, and if everything is normal, there shouldn't be any play and it should fit. Check the plastic tabs on the bottom of the glass, make sure that the adhesive that keeps them in place hasn't broken. Also, with the glass out, run the regulator up and down and look at the top beam where the window attaches, it should be horizontal and the diagonal crossmembers should be move evenly.

I don't know if it would mess up your regulator or not but would it be possible to lower the window bracket a little (like maybe 1/8th inch from its maximum extension) and then align the window at the top? That way the regulator wouldn't be at its maximum reach when the window was seating at the top.

Just a thought,

So just to clarify, your window isn't going all the way up into the seal?

The window goes up all the way, everything works great, but as it goes up it starts to tilt forward a little, and the back straight edge of the glass is coming out of the seal, along the back edge of the door. When this happens the glass can tip out a little and it will catch the small piece of rubber it should tuck behind. Then it bends it and then next time it is worst, bends it more, and so on. Until it is too the point I'm at now where the seal is shot. I should have a picture of this. I will try to get one up here, it will make more sense to see it.

I didn't think it was adjustable, it didn't look like it. I will have to slot the mounting holes of the regulator. Which I shouldn't have to do. I will use that as a last resort. But first I should take the glass and regulator out. And check that there isn't a worn part. Like a bushing that is allowing slop in the regulator.

Okay. I'm thinking that it may be something having to do with the regulator. One thing that you may want to make sure is that both the tabs at the bottom are seated correctly, as QSlim said. My initial thought was that one of the guides may be bent, causing the window not to go up evenly -OR- one of the five (i think) screws are not securing the regulator in the correct position, which may also cause the regulator to sit in the door crooked. I can't think of anything else at the moment that would cause your window to still function, but not seat correctly.
