3rd Generation High RPM to get out of 1st gear question?

Ive been noticing on my 94 v6 xle that whenever i cold start my car and start driving somewhere (usually school) it takes me a while to get out of 1st gear. It usually only takes around 2-2.5 x RPM to switch out of 1st gear but whenever i start driving in the morning with a cold start i have to push it over 3 to get out of first gear. It feels weird because it takes so much longer to get out of 1st gear than normal and its kinda bothering me
any suggestions??

Check your manual transaxle fluid and switch to a better fluid or replace with new.

having the same problem, fluids are good, 4 cylinder, just thought that's how it was geared, i don't notice too much of a difference from a cold engine to a warm engine.

Its like that because when its cold, the engine maintains a higher rpm until it warms up. If it shifts too early then the next gear would be a too low an rpm.

Mine keeps doing it through the entire drive though. I'm starting to think it's actually a transmission problem.

This should become more noticable as the weather gets colder and the transmission fluid takes a little longer to warm up. You might want to exchange the ATF with synthetic. I believe it has better cold weather properties.

Have you checked the fluid level in both the transmission and the differential? I don't know if low ATF in the differential would result in delayed shifting or not.

yup. does the same on mine. so usually get up about an extra 5 min early to let it warm up. if in a hurry then i let it warm up for about a minute or so the drive it without pushing it more then 3grand... dont feel like cracking any seals. so give it a some time to warm and see if it does the same, if does then something is up with your tranny... just my two cents
