Canada 1994 camry DX loose steering

It seems that I have to really crank the steering wheel to make pretty standard turns nowadays. When i'm parked there I can move the steering wheel a few inches either way before any wheels move. Also, when I'm parked, my wheel could be turned left but my wheels are facing right. What causes this, what should I check out when I go underneath my car?

Thanks,
Karl

How much air pressure is in your tires? A little cool weather can make a difference sometimes.

Have you checked your power steering fluid level? If it is low and you got air into the system it might have this affect. If you topped off the reservoir with power steering fluid (wrong) instead of Dexron ATF III Fluid (correct) you may have damaged the seals and the fluid may be bypassing the seals.

If you are low on fluid, put in the correct fluid. If you can put it up on jack stands do so and crank the wheel from lock to lock while topping off the fluid in the reservoir as necessary.

Steering Bush which will cost you no more than 15 bucks. But come to replace it You're looking at atleast 100 bucks if done in a shop. I have the same problem and its been driving me crazy, I thought I bought the right part, and I figured out today that I didn't.

What's the part called, steering bushing? Where is it located, and can I tell it's faulty without taking it to a mechanic first.

I inflated the tires to the right level and my fluid seems okay so I think it's the bushing or whatever.

Thanks for the tip!
