blown head

I have a 2003 toyota camry, 40K miles.

I got in an accident that caused my radiator to start messing up. due in part to my negrigence this led to a blown head gasket.

Im getting it fixed. shoudl I keep it or sell it?

is this one of those things that never really gets fixed properly and will lead to more problems or will my car be as good as it was before. thanks

I doubt you've blown a gasket from a messed up radiator. Did you go to the dealer. They are ususally the ones telling you do unessassary work.

Could have blown the headgasket if I kept driving with a messed up radiator and the engine overheated. As far as the headgasket job goes its a lot of work but its pretty straightforward. If its done properly your car should run just as good as it did before. You may end up changing the catalytic converter in the future if you had a lot of coolant getting into the combustion chamber.

thanks fir the replies. the mechanic said the head was warped. it was over heating and the whole 9. it got hot then shut down. I tried to restart it then BOOM, a big puff of white smoke out the muffler and that was it.

ShawnM said it well.

The head warping is normal with a Blown Head Gasket. As long as the job is done right, you should be fine. No need to sell it.

Update: I got my car back today. It feels the same. I havent really pushed it to the limit to really test it though but it feels good. The only difference I notice is that when I start it I have to hold the key turn for an extra half of a second. but besides that there isnt any strange vibrations or noises. I think I will keep it. But if other problems surfaces thats it.

thanks

This is a long shot, but if they disconnected the battery, then the ECU would be reset. Whenever this happens it always take a bit longer for the car to startup on the first couple tries.

wow...where did you come up with that logic?

Glad to hear that it's running and running good again. I think i'd be scared to get on it too hard right after getting it back too.

If you have some sort of warranty on their work for 30 days you may want to push it before the warranty expires. Just to be certain...
