Knowledge of Keyless transmitters ?

Does anyone on here know if there is a rule of thumb when it comes to keyless entry transmitters? What I mean is if the car has a mechanical trunk pop by the fuel door release than should my remote only have lock/unlock or does the trunk latch have a secondary solinoid release and therfore i should have a 3 button.I have a 2000 camry sedan with cable trunk pop and obviously keyless entry. (and 2 button remote)I have seen remote transmitters on ebay and other sites with the same number (gq-43vt14t) and one will have a lock/unlock and the next one will have lock/unlock/trunk. I went throught the programing sequence and I can get as far as the confirmation after the ignition on off on off then it locks/unlocks 2x but when I push the lock/unlock sim. no responce therefore the transmitter may be incorrect? I have a new battery in it so either wrong one or bad one.
