3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
360glitch: I'm just gonna let the exhaust man work his magic tomorrow morning but thanks very much for the offer!
GrkBallaG: My Camry is an early '92 model with non-Cali emissions so it doesn't have a manifold cat, just the one that would be after the flex pipe. I think you're seeing the flex pipe in the first pic. BTW, i'll send you a pm if i'm ever headed down to Charlotte. Sweet looking Camry you've got!
It looks like the car was jacked up on the passenger's side. The pinch weld seam that runs along the rocker panel is bent and a bunch of paint is chipped off. I guess thats how they got the room to do the deed.
I THINK.. people who steal catalytic converters have something to do with a jeweler of some sort because if you think about it- the precious metals found in these cats. have to be heated to over 1200 degrees to even move them- i'd suggest someone who works with metal BUT they're not as precise as jewelers-

Platinum has many industrial uses also. It's not just for jewelery.

Also, how many cats did you have on there man? I know for sure stock camrys have one cat in the mani and one secondary which i see still pictured, but there shouldnt be a cat where they cut at, very confusing.
yea there should .... the first picture is pointed towards the front of the car, the second to the rear
its in between the flex pipe (1st pic) & resonator (2nd pic) ... right in the center of the car

All fixed! Great guys @ Affordable Muffler and Brakes! They took me right in this morning and let me watch the cat being installed. I'm running a Magnaflow now. Thanks for all the kind words and if any of you ever catch someone stealing from someone's car, put a few punches in for me!!
I saw a lot about lowering in this thread. If you lower far enough, you cant get a jack under the car I had to use a long 2x4 to get my old honda up high enough for a jack to get under it. maybe the thieves carry around 2x4's and jacks. On the flip side I knocked out the flex pipe twice since the car was so low, so in the long run, it's probably not economically viable.
Good to hear they fixed it so cheap, it's nice to know you dont HAVE to pay $800, has always worried me. Reminds me of some a$$holes who pried my jap spec red honda emblems off my old car $100(with a screw driver), I wanted to kill somebody, I cant imagine someone stealing the equivalent of my cars kidneys off
btw, since this is on topic somewhat, have many of you had to replace your cat? I up I'm up 120,000mi, kinda of wondering if that might be in my near future.
There have been reports of people making off with miles of power wire for light rails, copper water and AC conduits, telecom and power wire to houses, and renters taking the plumbing with them.
you'd think the least they could do is replace the copper pipe with some pvc before they goo lol
