3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
i have a 92 camry 5spd. 5sfe, and a 3sgte and 5spd. tranny complete motor. i am wondering the cheapest and best thing i can do with my car. around 2,000 dollar budget. should i do the whole swap or take turbo off 3sgte i was wondering about the tranny if the 5sfe will hold turbo, and if the 3sgte tranny will fit on 5sfe., i also have the complete exhaust system for turbo will it bolt to the current motor. or maybe i should do the v6 since i have 5spd. what do you's think would be best.
grately appreciated.
As far as what to do, you need to look around and see what you want with the car. The v6 swap is a good boost in power compared to the 4 cylinders, but to go any farther in power you have to spend even more on top of what it costs to get an engine in and running (which is always more than you plan for )
A 3s-gte swap is also a great option for power but it will probably deplete your wallet and then you will end up saving for more upgrades for the 3s-gte when you want more ponies out of the setup.
Really, if you want a fast car buy one that comes with forced induction factory

Swap in the 3SGTE and E153 transmission into the car and ditch the 5SFE. The 5SFE was not meant to be boosted, where the 3SGTE is ready to go out the door. Definitely a much better option.
if you want something a little more unique, and maybe want to save a few bucks (although both will be expensive), use the 3SGTE parts to build a 5SFTE (dont bother with a 5S-GTE hybrid motor)

about how much will it cost for the complete 3sgte swap since i have the motor and tranny figured that would be the most expensive part of the swap, the thing is i got it from my brother in law which was sold to him by a friend for 100 bucks, my brother said he seen the car run before it was pulled out. maybe he's rich he does have a 10 sec eagle talon he said he had no use for it, i just dont trust putting the motor in n it be fuckd up.
the only guys that i know of that have done the 3SGTE swap here are swegyptian, UfoZ, and Wraith .... none of which are terribly active in this section, so you'll have to PM them if you want exact info
the rest of us dont really know that much about the swap .... all we know is what theyve shared with us ... its mostly a custom swap, including custom engine mounts ... so dont expect it to be like Honda swaps or anything of that nature where its in/out with no problems

Doesn't matter on the alt unless you want to have a huge stereo system along with your fast car. In that case you have $$ and you can just have a local place custom wind one for you. And TheAmazingNate also had a 5SFTE. Not sure what happened to it, I haven't seen him around for a while.
is the gen 3 mr2 the same year as a gen 3 camry n whats gen3.5 mean
a generation is a section of years with a similar body style & platform ... the 1992-1996 "3rd Generation" Camry is split up into Gen 3 (92-94) and Gen3.5 (95-96) because it underwent a facelift for the last two years and looks slightly different
you cant match-up generations between two cars, since they dont really correspond to anything global ... theyre all relative to the individual car
