4th Generation New struts, springs, mounts and new problems.

I have a 1999 Toyota Camry Le with about 52,000 miles. During about 40,000 miles I had to replace my suspension. I bought new struts, springs and strut mounts and started to have new problems since. One of them are loud thumping sounds during turns on bumpy roads. I am pretty sure it might be the strut mounts. Second one is every time I turn then stop the car has a hassle to stop. Like the disks is warped but they are not. They has a struggle to stop and makes a large grinding sound. I have plenty of life on the pads and disks. The final problem is when I turn (like a curved snake road)It makes a rubbing sound and my tires are inflated and rotated. I took both wheels off to see if their is any evidence of rubbing but there was none then put the tires back on. And nothing change. Anyone had these problems and fix or found out the cause of this? Thanks

This is a stretch but since no one has chimed in yet consider, if you do indeed have a bad strut mount then maybe, and I do stress maybe, would it be possible that the alignment of the brake caliper relative to the rotor might be changing enough during a turn that something begins to grind? When you can, you might want to pull the calipers off and see if there is any evidence (shine spots on normally rusty areas) of something rubbing on the caliper or the caliper rubbing on something. The edge of the rotor is often rusty unless it is fairly new. If that is shine it would be very suspicious. Same with the inside of the body of the caliper. It too is normally kind of rusty.

Anyhow, it's a thought. I just can't figure out why the strut mounts would fail so soon.

I wouldn't think that would change anything with the brake assembly. It's all mounted on the lower endlink assembly.

When I try to stop when driving strait and when I turn then go start a while is no problem but the problem is when I turn then beginning to stop when my wheels are strait forward, Like turning into a driveway. I just have to bring it in to a shop. My shop said that they have no clue what is causing this. This is about the 3rd time. When the disk is resurfaced a few days later it comes again.

well i could bet that the strut noise is probably from where your springs are now seated, so there's a bit of play between the strut shaft, and cap. try tightening the center nut holding the strut on the top. dont worry about the strut shaft moving, it shouldnt, as there's a good amount of pressure on it.

im gonna bet its the strut mounts doin that. mine have done the same thing and it was becaue a metal ring that was supposed to be present between the strut and the strutmount.

Exactamundo. The bearing that goes in between the upper spring seat and the strut mount is pretty delicate.
