3rd & 4th Generation (19921996 & 19972001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Started an aftermarket fog light installation and finished the wiring inside the engine bay. Followed the instructions except I want to tap to the parking light 12v+ in the cabin. Where is this wire. I've included a picture of the relay/plug area in the driver's footwell. Do you know which plug is it?
Picture of relay / plug area..sorry, grainy picture from camera phone
I'm trying to get the fog lights turn on when the parking lights are on too and not without. Also, when the key is not in, it won't light up. Just to be sure it doesn't drain the battery when left on. Thanks!

this lets you add a fused circuit to your fuse panel so you dont need to chase wires, by doing it how i did it yes you have a switch, but when you turn off the car the lights go off too.

If you want to tap in to the front parking light wire, you need to locate a connector that is located in the passenger side of the dash. It will have either two or three wires .... The wires will be green and have an orange stripe. .... going into a junction connector.
See p. 31 of the Gen 4 wiring diagram in online repair manual. Look for a connector labeled J35. ... Looks like it is behind the passenger side kick panel. Shouldn't be too difficult to access.
See wiring diagram p. 130 for relevant circuit diagram.

thanks rebel and dc. The add a circuit seems to be a better idea than to splice. I don't mind splicing, as long as I'm splicing into the right wire. I'm wondering if there is a fuse panel inside the cabin? I have only seen the fuse/relay box in the engine compartment. Is there another one in the cabin that I can tap the aac into? If not then there would be 2 wires coming into the cabin. The wire from aac and the wire from the relay. Both of these wires connect to the switch. The third wire is the ground. Is this correct? Thanks again.

Another thing I guess you could try is poking the wires with a voltmeter.
Turn the parking lights on and when one of the wires gets a signal, turn them off and see if the signal is gone. If it is, it is a high possiblity that thats the wire. But I think finding the wiring diagram is a better bet.

Anybody wants to confirm about the fuse box in the cabin. can't seem to find mine. And if its there, where to plug the add-a-circuit? The pictures that rebel linked seems to show (2) 5 amp fuse. Can I only use 5 amp fuse location or can I use other fuse location? Thanks.

Found it..thanks rebel. The thing that's puzzles me is that there is a fuse in the fog lamp bay (15 A). How do I test this is to know if its hot (dmm with red on fuse bay and black on ground..)? I'm deciding to use this slot for the aftermarket fogs. Since there is no OE fogs, was this vehicle prewired for fogs already? Maybe people from TN could chime in on this one especially the ones with the OE fog. Also, are the original fog switch from the signal/headlight stalk or from a rocker switch? Thanks again...

That fuse block is pretty well the same one used for several vehicles, so the space and fuse slot is there, usually if fog lamp was a dealer option, the wiring will be put through there during install.

Hajoca, thanks for the input. Its just strange to provide a fuse if there was no equipment. I don't even think that there is a relay for the fog. Still, will use a tester on that fuse bay to see if its hot. Btw guys. i just purchase a fog light rocker switch at NAPA. Its made by Cole Hershee. The same manufacturer for OE Toyota. Will try it tomorrow to see if it fits. If it does, its cheaper than the dealership! Will post some pics tomorrow.

creeps, that's correct. I'm going to check the fog light fuse bay if its hot. Also if its hot after turning on parking light. If it does, then that's where I'll attach the add-a-circuit. If not, then I'll hook it up to the tail light fuse. Thanks for the input.
