Engine movement when shifting 2.2

I'm sure there is a Q&A section I could do a search for stupid questions like this and if so can anyone tell me where to find it ??

Question.... I am getting noticable movement when shifting , not excessive but noticable enough . Car is a 97 with the 2.2 5 spd . Would a mount , the one that goes to the strut tower be suspect ? Looks OK but does move when rocking the car in gear so it's possable the rubber is too soft ? Will just changing this one help or should I replace all ??

Thanks !

id inspect each one but the dogbone(the one attached to the strut mount) would be my first guess.

The motor mount close to the radiator and the dogbone mount are usually the ones that give the most trouble

Next question. When you accelerate, do you feel, hear a "clunk". also, how many miles?

Don't feel a clunk really , just some movement in the gear shifter that seems too noticable if you boot it and let up . I've rocked it with it sitting in gear and don't see any broken mounts but there is give in that "dog bone" at the strut tower .

The front bottom mount should be ok then. Normally when that gives out, it makes a clunk when you hit the accelerator.

For the dogbone mount, take a much closer look at it. Move it around with your hands, and see if the rubber is cracked and ripped.

It may look fine at 1st glance, so look close.

and if it isn't good I'd suggest looking up the DIY way to fix it, and really really stiff fixed at that I hear. Forget what it was exactly, but they used like, weatherstrip adhesive or something to fill in the whole area where the rubber is to reinforce it. (around the center nut)
