3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Finally after weeks of going to and getting shot down by my local body shop numerous amounts of times, they finally painted her. I dont have pics now, hopefully will have something by tomorrow. But the thing i find wired is that the Rear Bumper and Trunk arent the same color as the rest of the car. I mean how stupid can the painter be saying that the colors are the same when they are not, plus the paint color of the car is on the door panel...Anyways back to m point the car is painted but the rear bumper adn trunk is lighter than the rest of the car! its a BS job but its better den it was b4...Anyways im planning on painting the whole car how much would that cost?
PICS

Its a different color because paint on ur car is old and it changes color over time. So even though its the same code, the paint may not look the same.
And the painter might have done a crappy job too.
Painting the whole car varies, I've heard from 800 to 3000.... depends on the quality of work and the number of steps and number of coats of paint you want....
i was thinkong of going navy blue on it but then theres alot of things u gotta do in order to get the car crap ( car paper work i.e; title ) wuthe the new color so i just want to paint it the same color it came from TOYOTA

what EvoFire said. it looks different because you're probably comparing a new coat of paint to an old one. i've had the same thing in other cars. one that comes to mind was a chrysler neon. i had the rear bumper resprayed but it looked slightly different to the rest of the car. same paint code. it's just the age of the paint job that makes it look different.
what happened to your car? what bits got painted and why?
one way to avoid such paint issues is to paint the entire side that needs to be repaired. for example, if the drivers door was repaired, then you would have to paint both left doors plus the front left guard and the rear left guard for the car to look good. otherwise you'll always notice the difference... notice all those cars on the road with one door slightly different to the rest? it's because they didn't paint the whole side of the car.
oh, and to respray the whole car, i'd say 3k would be the average quote you'll get.

In addition to that, the bumpers are also plastic, so it's going to look like a different shade. Although i'm not sure about the trunk.
^^^I was going to say the same thing as geoff5093.
I just had one of my fenders repaired from a deer strike. Didn't have to paint my bumpers, but was reading some materials at the body shop and they talked about the metal vs. plastic substrates and how the same paint can look different on them, and how paint can age differently depending on the substrate.
I would say that's true in my experience, because on both of my '95 Camrys, the paint on the bumpers now looks ever so slightly different than the paint on the sheet metal.
its all about the shop u choose, an expensive paintjob will be perfect, but trying to find a good deal will always end up with problems. mixed incorrectly, wrong color used, improper application. just be glad this is done.
I've been hesitating on doing this to my gen 3's rear bumper. It's pretty ok compared to every other gen 3 out here but I figured it would make it a better buy when I'll be able to sell it and in the mean time at least have a better looking butt lol. The difference in color shades probably would back fire on me when the buyer might think it was in an accident. So it's hard to decide if it's the right thing to do.
Well Creeps it can't be that bad can it?? Well at least you got new paint on it regardless lol.
I had a lot of pieces of my Car painted, vent shades, spoiler, grill, front lip all plastic and My painter Stephen matches it close to perfect. It can be done!

both his lip and his rear center panel were painted to match - the white balance in the picture is a bit off, but you can tell that they are almost exactly the same color even on a 12-year-old car
